Airbus Industrie A330Ansett considered the purchase of A330s in 1997, including 14 A330-200 aircraft from Airbus & possibly 4 ex-Air Inter A330-301 aircraft. No order was placed.
Airbus Industrie A340-313Ansett/Air New Zealand considered the purchase of four ex Singapore Airlines A340-313s in early-2001, for use by Ansett International. The plan did not proceed.

Arthur Butler ordered 3 new Ambassadors from Airspeed in 12/49, but they were never delivered, as de Havilland cancelled production after they took over Airspeed.B.A.T. announced the purchase of the three second-hand Ambassadors, for £562,500, on 31/05/57, which became VH-BUI/BUJ/BUK. During 1951, reports claimed that A.N.A. was close to an order for AS.57 Ambassadors. However, no order occurred.

Poulson (later trading as Barrier Reef Airways) from the RAAF 21/10/46, issued 27/02/47 & sold to the Netherlands East Indies Government in 1947.
Breguet 942During 1965, Reg Ansett advised various government authorities that the days of flying boat operations at Lord Howe Island were numbered & suggested that the subsidies for that service could be reduced if the QANTAS services to Norfolk Island were transferred to Ansett, & a runway built to allow the operation of Breguet 942 STOL aircraft. The proposal was not accepted.

However, after the purchase of East-West Airlines, in 12/83, the order did not proceed.

W.A.A.’s November 1934 Director’s Report advised that W.A.A. had ordered two D.H.89s from England. Registrations VH-USY(1) & VH-USZ were allocated for W.A.A. D.H.89As 11/34. But neither D.H.89 was ever delivered.

A letter, proposing a post-war service between the East-Coast & Perth included the use of 25 ‘sleeper’ seat (44 ‘normal’ seat) aircraft. Butler Air Transport chartered an unknown QANTAS DC-4 on 05/11/55, for a Sydney-Coffs Harbour charter flight. Guinea Airways used A.N.A. Douglas DC-5VHCXA - In some earlier editions of this history, I did not include information on VHCXA, as I had no definite information that VHCXA was ever operated by A.N.A., despite a few rumors. However, I was advised in 08/07 that an A.N.A. pilot, who flew the DC-5s, had specifically advised that, whilst with A.N.A., he had flown all three DC-5s, including VHCXA, for A.N.A., on behalf of the A.D.A.T. VHCXB - A.N.A. definitely operated VHCXB on behalf of the A.D.A.T. Some reports have suggested that DC-5 call-sign VHCXB may have been allocated, for transfer to A.N.A., prior to its loss.VHCXC, VH-ARD.

Handley Page HeraldIn late-1954, Queensland Airlines Pty. Ltd. announced a letter of intent for 6 Alvis Leonides-powered HPR-3 Heralds (with 44 rear-facing seats). In 02/55, Australian National Airways issued a letter of intent for 18 Alvis Leonides-powered HPR-3 Heralds. On 02/08/55, A.N.A. announced a provisional order for 24, for A.N.A. & QAL, at a cost of £212,500 each. G-AODE was test-flown, in QAL colors, 25/08/55 & flew, in Q.A.L. colors, at the 1955 SBAC Farnborough Show. Neither order proceeded. During 1958, Handley Page, anxious to see their use in Australia, offered Southern Airlines the use of 2 Heralds on a very generous ‘dry lease’ arrangement. The offer was never taken up.
