South Pacific Airlines of New Zealand Ltd. (SPANZ) Convair CV-440
SPANZ wanted to operate CV-440s, provided by ANSETT-ANA. But the CAA advised that various airports were too sub-standard for the type. Douglas DC-3
G-AMKE, ZK-AQU, ZK-BYD, ZK-BYE, ZK-CAW. SPANZ also chartered N.A.C. DC-3s, other than ZK-AQU, for short periods, but details are not known. Douglas DC-4 SPANZ considered chartering Ansett DC-4s for a proposed Auckland-Rarotonga service in late-1962. The services never materialised. Douglas DC-6B
SPANZ considered in 07/64, leasing ‘100-seat’ DC-6Bs from ANSETT-ANA. The plan did not progress & was officially abandoned on 27/08/64.
Fokker F.27
SPANZ considered purchasing one F.27 (late-1964). No order was placed. Reportedly SPANZ was granted government approval to operate four F.27s just before its demise. HS 748 SPANZ considered purchasing two HS 748s (announced 27/06/65, for introduction by end-1966), for use north of Christchurch. A detailed review indicated that a HS 748 operation would not be profitable. A varied proposal was put forward later, for introduction late-1966.

No order was placed. A proposal, in 10/65, to lease a second-hand HS748 Series 1, also came to nothing.
